The land island
The only Greek island with road access is situated near Etoloakarnania area and is separated from the mainland by the small but historic Drepanou Strait. The easy accessibility makes it an unbeatable destination throughout the year.
It is the island of Angelos Sikelianos and, some historians claim, the real Ithaca of the Odyssey. Anyway, Lefkada is itself an attraction, with beautiful seaside towns and villages immersed in nature.
The town is a growing city with one of the most modern marinas in the Mediterranean. A shopping center offering everything to travelers. The east coast is the most accessible and most tourist developed with small, beautiful fishing villages like Nikiana and bigger as Nidri, a charming seaside resort. The coastal road is full of shops, cafes and restaurants and people walking enjoying the beauty of the landscape. The statue of Aristotle Onassis, benefactor of the island, refers directly to Scorpio, the beautiful private island opposite Nidri, which you cannot visit, but to admire from afar.
Meganissi, Sparti, Arkoudi, Atokos, Kastos and Kalamos are small islands close to Lefkada which you can visit by boat in daily basis. Beautiful, each of them with its own character, offers a relaxing, carefree holiday, hospitality and good food. In this minor sea there are very interesting depths to explore and the underwater activity is a sport that has grown in the area for years!

The magical depth of Lefkada and the undersea wealth offer memorable experiences and indelible images of diving enthusiasts. Headquartered in Nikiana near Nidri or in Vassiliki organized Diving Centers are activated in diving excursions. The diving centers offer diving opportunities all accompanied by qualified divers and special dives like, discover scuba, first aid training and all forms of diving such as deep diving (-30m.) wall diving etc. Apart from these they organize activities and events, such as cleaning beaches, underwater bottoms, exploring the local flora and fauna etc.
For the comfort and safety of their customers have for those who have brought their own equipment, a separate room, where they can flush their uniform and lock it before and after each dive so as to avoid unnecessary transport and unnecessary damage. Those who want to explore and enjoy for the first time the magic of the underwater world, without being obliged to make full training can attend the program which includes theory, diving pool and finally diving into the sea.
The dives are made with extra boats and sometimes by little boats while the locations vary from simple clusters of rocky sand intermixed with vertical "walls" decorated with fake corals and sponges of all shapes and colors! The Ionian Sea is famous for its clear waters, but also for the cold thermocline, who almost always occurs after the first 3-4 feet, and the reason that gives this wonderful biodiversity. Moray eels, groupers, lobsters and octopuses are the main inhabitants of these formations and they sometimes share the sea with schools of Jacks and sometimes barracudas coming from deep in search of food.
Underwater photographers and especially fans of macro issues will find countless topics such as feather duster warms nudibranchs and small red shrimps hiding in the caves.

And after the diving what? Just then the best are to come! Relax and swim at the famous beaches! Especially in the western side Porto Katsiki has been voted many times as one of the best in the Mediterranean due to the crystal clear waters. The beach next to St. John in the town of Lefkada is another beautiful beach. The beach Kathisma in the west side with the huge golden sand completes this heavenly puzzle.
Apart from the tourist infrastructure that will satisfy every guest, Lefkada has very good food. The traditional dishes like bourdeto, maridopita and frygadeli will leave you with the best of gastronomic impressions. Karya village is also famous for its handmade weaving and embroidery and has a small but impressive Folk Museum.
The island is a patchwork of images, tastes, pleasures. The mountains are shelter for countless species of birds, mammals and plants. A place with many caves, waterfalls and springs. One of the most beautiful, I admit, parts of Greece, always friendly, always ready to welcome you.
